SPINAL CORD STIMULATOR

A spinal cord stimulator (SCS) is a device used to manage chronic pain in the back, limbs, or other areas affected by nerve-related pain conditions. This implantable device works by delivering electrical pulses to the spinal cord, which interfere with the nerve signals that transmit pain to the brain. A small pulse generator is implanted under the skin, typically in the abdomen or buttock region, and connected to electrodes placed near the spinal cord or directly on nerve roots. These electrodes emit controlled electrical impulses that mask or modify the pain signals before they reach the brain, thereby reducing the sensation of pain experienced by the patient. Spinal cord stimulation is often recommended when other treatments have been ineffective, offering a non-destructive alternative to surgery for pain relief. The device can be adjusted to meet individual needs, allowing patients to manage their pain levels and potentially reduce reliance on pain medications, improving overall quality of life.
