Disc decompression is a minimally invasive surgery designed to efficiently access damaged disc without injuring surrounding tissue. Utilizing X-ray and a fiber-optic camera, a small grasper is introduced into the inner portion of the disc where small amounts of nucleus pulposus are gently removed. Then some mild heat is applied to resorb the herniated portion of the disc off the impinged nerve. Disc decompression is considered a safe and effective treatment for patients with back pain or leg pain who have failed conservative care including rest, medications, injections and/or physical therapy. This is an outpatient surgery where patients go home the same day with only a small bandage on their back. It offers quick recovery times and significant pain relief compared to traditional surgical approaches.
